For any beauty product or skincare regimen to work well, it’s crucial to have a better comprehension of your skin type. Though beauty treatments can help you enhance skin texture and look, what works on your skin and what doesn’t is highly dependent on your basic skin type which is genetically determined.

No doubt that the health of your skin and complexion can be improved by treating and feeding it well, ditching late nights, junk food, alcohol, smoking and sun exposure which can very well take a toll on your skin. Making lifestyle changes like consuming a balanced diet, working out daily, hydrating your body well and following a skincare regime that works for your specific skin type can help your skin get that natural sheen.

Generally, there are five basic skin types, normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive, and each requires specific care. You can easily figure out which skin type you have by a simple test. Wipe your face as soon as you wake up with clean facial tissue.

  • You have a normal skin type if the tissue remains clean with no trace of oil. For normal skin, you can have a simple, basic skincare routine with no fuss whatsoever to get vibrant skin. Needless to say, normal skin type is the least problematic of all with good texture and healthy circulation.

  • You have dry skin if your skin feels dry and tight even if the tissue comes off clean. Dry skin needs constant moisturizing as it is prone to wrinkles and rashes. If you want your skin to look well in your 40s and 50s, you better begin taking care of your skin with moisturizing masks, creams and serums early on.

  • You have oily skin if the tissue has some oily residue after you wipe your face. Oily skin ages slowly and looks greasy and shiny. With enlarged pores, oily skin is prone to acne breakouts, blackheads and whiteheads. Doing careful cleansing with oil-free moisturizers and sunscreens can be of great help coupled with a healthy, low-fat diet of greens, whole grains and fruits.
